EVENT PLANNING

How to Make Event Planning Eco-Friendly

Having an event is a fun way to gather everyone together to celebrate a big milestone, but you don't have to hurt the planet to do so. Eco-friendly event planning is becoming more and more popular as we become more aware of the climate crisis. Here are some top tips to help you plan for sustainable event design.

Decor

When you book a venue, ask if they already have tables and chairs that you can rent, or if they can recommend an outside vendor for rental. Consider swapping out real flowers for fake ones, especially if you're looking for out of season blooms. Take a look around your basement or ask friends for decor or props that they have in storage.

Food

Feeding your group doesn't have to be expensive or wasteful. If appropriate, ask your guests to bring their own drinks or a dish to pass. You can serve up food buffet style to avoid serving plates that won't get eaten. Check your city's local homeless shelters and see if you can donate your leftovers so they don't go to waste.

Clothing

Getting dressed up doesn't have to mean going out to the shops and buying a new outfit for this one event. Instead, visit second hand stores for something that's new to you, borrow a favorite outfit from a friend, or take a look in the back of your closet for something you already own. You might be surprised by what you find!
